Welcome To The eThekwini Library Web Site
eThekwini offers public library services at 84 circulating branch libraries across the metropolitan area. Library members may use any of EML’s lending libraries, but material must be returned to the same library from which it was borrowed. Details of branch libraries can be found under Contacts.
At BP Centre on the corner of West and Aliwal Streets there is a Central Reference Library, including a significant Africana collection. This is not a lending library but users may consult any of the large collection of reference works in the library. A mobile service delivers books to housebound people and retirement homes.
The online library catalogue is also available. The e-Resources page provides links to reference material of general interest. Other online services include free access to scholarly journals and research material through the knowledge portal of the online catalogue. For full-text journal articles follow the On-line Reference Services or the SA ePulications links on the Knowledge Portal.
Everyone is welcome to use the resources of the eThekwini Municipal Library, and if you live or work in the Unicity Area membership is free of charge and valid for two years. For more details on different types of membership please consult the Policies and Tariffs Section.
EML also supports 20 non-circulating libraries for various Council Departments which are for the exclusive use of staff in those departments.
